Ew! I Need a Shower After Dipping My Toes into Online Dating

I'm not sure what possessed me to do it but I uploaded a profile on a free online dating site this week. (OK, this had something to do with it.) After dipping my toes into the online dating pool, I really need a shower.

What I got back were scientific matches with guys with names like "durtbag" and "sexypasta" (OK - names have been changed to protect the innocent yet creepy. But, these names are close to actual ones) and winks with notes attached saying, "I hope you know CPR because you take my breath away," and "I'm single and ready to mingle."

Really??? Guys actually say these things and think it impresses someone?

My main concern with posting a dating profile was I work in the public and feared of running into someone I know or work with online. That concern became reality when I stepped in the elevator at my employer (which I rarely do) and saw a guy who viewed my profile yesterday. (The dating site sent me a message this person viewed my profile and I recognized him from his profile photo.) Ugh!

I realize you get what you pay for and whether you meet someone online or in person, dating can be awkward. It's difficult putting yourself out there knowing there's a good chance you'll be rejected. Even if you know you're not a match, rejection is still hard. Just watch "The Bachelor."(Yes, the show is one of vices.)

Although I have my lonely moments, I'm not sure if I have the time or energy for it right now.

I deactivated my account tonight and put my faith in the hands of the universe. Or if you know of anyone...I'm single and ready to mingle...
