Double Your Film Pleasure in Sarasota this Weekend: Sarasota Film Festival & Sarasota Fringe Film Festival

If the Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) followed proper email etiquette, the inaugural Sarasota Fringe Film Festival (April 2 - 5, 2009) would not be happening. On March 2, rejection emails were sent out to hundreds (350) of filmmakers who submitted their work to be considered for the 11th Annual Sarasota Film Festival (March 27 - April 5, 2009). Everyone's email addresses were exposed because the SFF did not use the BCC (blind carbon copy) option.

Since the rejected filmmakers now had each other's emails, they decided to move forward with their own film festival and soon became known as the Sarasota 350. No prizes will be awarded during this film festival, every reject is a winner! The Rustic Grill (400 North Lemon, Sarasota) will be the screening location and party central for the fringe festival.

All is good between the two festivals, in fact, word is they are collaborating with joint festivities Thursday night. I probably can't make it Thursday, but perhaps you can , here are highlights of what's happening:

April 2, 2009
5 - 7:30 p.m. Opening Reception featuring music, a live skit and remarks by the festival director.

Features
"Hardley Bear to Look at You" - Is it reality? Is it cinema? The film intertwines the two in this tangled story of communication and relationships.

"Andy Warhol's Factory People" - Looks at a group around the forefather of reality television, Andy Warhol.

"The Mountain, the River, and the Road"
- Stranded in a small town after a botched road trip, a young man finds love and himself.
